Welcome to Braintree Sixth Form. Our main priority at the Sixth Form is that our students are happy and successful. We believe that students will achieve far more if they are in an environment in which they are happy, known and valued. Braintree Sixth Form is a welcoming community for all students, and a Sixth form that cares about every student.

A particular strength of our Sixth form is the pastoral support we offer. Whilst we know that students coming out of year 11 are keen to enjoy more autonomy and independence, we also know that they still require support and guidance. We have a large team of tutors to offer that support, who will meet with each student individually at least once a half term in order to check how they are doing, monitor their progress and help them set targets to achieve their goals.

Students at sixth form are expected to take responsibility for their learning and to make productive use of directed study time. The sixth form centre is open before and after school hours so that students can arrive early or stay later if they wish to use the facilities to study.

When students do not have timetabled lessons, they can choose whether to study on site, to go to the cafe or common room or study at home from break time onwards. All students who are not in lessons during periods 1 or 2 are expected to undertake quiet study in one of the three study zones.

The sixth form aims to provide each individual student with appropriate support and guidance so that they get the most from their time in the sixth form and progress successfully on to fulfilling careers or further study. Tutors are kept informed about the performance of their tutees across their subjects, as well as being aware of their achievements outside the classroom. Systems of assessment and tracking are used to ensure that students receive regular feedback on their progress in each subject and targets for development. Regular individual tutorial meetings and Personal Development sessions ensure that every student is in regular contact with their tutor with whom progress will be discussed and to whom the tutee can readily turn for help or advice.

Our dress code at the sixth form is modest, appropriate and professional. We want our students to be comfortable and feel able to express themselves somewhat whilst still adhering to the dress code criteria. The sixth form are role models for the younger students at Notley High School and thus adherence to the expectations of modesty, appropriateness and professionalism is important.

This dress code is designed to guide students on the expected standards of dress and appearance. It is not exhaustive in defining acceptable and unacceptable standards of dress and students are expected to use common sense in adhering to the principles underpinning the code.

Excellent progression

Braintree Sixth Form has an excellent progression record. The vast majority of students progress on to Higher or Further Education. Students receive supervision and guidance from a member of staff who leads on student destinations alongside their tutors, who assist with all applications, for university places, apprenticeships and training, or the workplace.
